Anyone with comments on the proposed 190-acre mixed-use development near the intersections of Highways 153 and 27 may email 153@sceniclandcompany.com.

The developer of a controversial 190-acre development off Highway 153 will withdraw the proposal from the Chattanooga City Council.

Duane Horton of Scenic Land Company will meet with Hixson community leaders to determine the best use of the land. Horton said he stands behind the plan as-is, but will make changes and clarifications to better reflect the community's goals.

Several area residents have spoken out against the development citing concerns about traffic, the environment and the viability of the development.

But Horton said his project meets nearly all the goals the community set out in its long-term development plan. Eventually the site will be developed, he said, and this plan helps unify that process and avoid piecemeal strip development.

"Our battle is how the land should be used," he said. "We are withdrawing to discuss that issue, how it can best be developed."

Horton will submit his withdrawal request at the Chattanooga City Council meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.
