Brendie Rockholt has a reason to celebrate. She just doesn't know how she'll do that.
The Dalton senior won the Class AAA girls' golf state championship Monday at the Applewood course in Keysville, Ga.
"I was pretty excited because I didn't really expect to win," said Rockholt, who will play at NCAA Division II Armstrong Atlantic State next year. "I hit the ball really well and made two birdies, but my putting was off."
Rockholt shot a 6-over-par 78 and won by two shots over Cairo's Kayla Wilbourn and Gainesville's Morgan Reece. Playing as an individual, Megan Collins of Southeast Whitfield placed fourth with a 9-over 81.
The Lady Catamounts could not quite pull off the team victory. Gainesville won with a 166. Dalton tied St. Pius X for seventh place at 182 with freshman Ashleigh Peters adding a 104 to the team score. Murray County placed 12th.
"I tried not to let the pressure get to me," Rockholt said. "It was just really about having fun today."
She will be celebrating later.
