The singles finals of the District 7-A/AA tournament reduced Chattanooga Christian coach Renato Mizutano and Notre Dame coach Anne Ricksecker to mere spectators. Each had two players facing off for an individual championship.

Stewart Fellers defeated CCS teammate Barrett Schock in the boys' final, and the Lady Chargers' Ellie and Hannah Henry won the girls' doubles title. Notre Dame claimed the other championship, with Katie Joyce defeating teammate and doubles partner Callie Voges in straight sets and Charles Jabaley and Tyler Ross rallying from down a set to win in boys' doubles.

"I was kind of glad I didn't have to do a lot of coaching today. I could just sit back and watch," Mizutano said. "It was a good tournament for CCS."

The finalists will play in the Region 4-A/AA tournament next week in Middle Tennessee.

• A big semifinal doubles win by Walker Valley's Jami Gibson and Wendi Watson, followed by Maclain Yowarsky's victory in the singles final, gave the Lady Mustangs eight points and the District 5-AAA tournament championship.

Because Soddy-Daisy's girls won the regular-season title, the two teams have to face each other today in a one-match playoff to determine the district champion. It will be held at Middle Valley at 4.

Gibson and Watson defeated Soddy-Daisy's Abigail Ellis and Rachel Hargis 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-3.

"That was the big one," Walker Valley coach Elaine Policastro said. "That semifinal match was a must-win. The girls really wanted this and they had to work hard to get it, so I'm proud of it."

Individual titles went to Cleveland's Alex Klibisz boys' singles, McMinn County's Taylor Thompson and Victoria Williams in girls' doubles and Rhea County's Nick McWherter and Zach Madewell in boys' doubles. Cleveland's boys claimed the team title and will travel later this week for their region title match.
