Armed man arrested in Soddy-Daisy

Hamilton County Swat team deputies arrested Hunter Thomas, 18 years old, in Soddy-Daisy this morning.

Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services were called to 12410 NeeCee Lane, Soddy-Daisy last night at approximately 11:29 to check a person involved in a fall. When medical personnel they found that Thomas had barricaded himself in the home.

According to his family members, Thomas had been acting bizarre and police officers found he was also armed with a loaded AK-47. The Hamilton County Sheriff's SWAT and Negotiation team were brought in. Negotiations with Thomas continued through the night and at one point he aimed his loaded weapon at officers. Officers then put in place safety precautions were then put in place to secure the surrounding neighborhood.

Around 5:40 this morning, Hunter came out onto the roof of the residence armed with the AK-47. Deputies with the SWAT team were then able to take him into custody.

According to Janice Atkinson, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, Thomas will be charged with six counts of aggravated assault and six counts of pointing a laser at officers. Atkinson reported that this morning he was still being checked on the scene by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services but at some point will be transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
