Tennessee, in the past 10 years, has become a destination for women seeking abortions.
With fewer restrictions and more abortion providers than elsewhere in the South, more women have made the decision to travel to Tennessee to end their pregnancies.
Out-of-state women now account for one in four abortions in Tennessee, a proportion that’s grown sharply since 2000, even as the overall number of abortions in this state has dropped.
But a looming battle over abortion rights may fundamentally alter access in Tennessee, affecting not only residents of this state but the wider landscape of the South.
