University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman Trey Brown has decided to leave the program and enroll at East Mississippi Community College, according to UTC coach John Shulman.

"He's getting closer to home," Shulman said. "We were hoping that he was going to be a big 3 [wing forward] for us, and we may have eventually moved him to a 4."

Brown, who came from Bandon High School in Mississippi, played a total of 32 minutes this past season, including a season-high nine against Hiwassee.

"He's decided to go closer to home, and he'll be re-recruited," Shulman said. "He'll have success there."

Brown's departure leaves UTC with one open scholarship for the upcoming season.

"We'd like to take a big man if one came available, and we're looking at transfers from other schools," Shulman said. "There's always things popping up, and you have to keep recruiting every day."

Shulman said it's unlikely that his coaching staff -- which is down one man after Ricky Cabrera returned to Tennessee Tech -- would pursue a junior college transfer.

"We've got a scholarship," Shulman said. "We're not going to waste it. It's not like we're in dire straits."
