Calhoun, Ga., man charged with arson after lighting a fire in bedroom

A Calhoun, Ga., man was charged with arson after he locked himself in a bedroom this morning and lit a mattress on fire.

A woman called police this morning, complaining that 54-year-old Rudy David Hernandez had been drinking and threatened to kill her, a news release states.

When police arrived, they found Hernandez locked in a bedroom with a fire in the room, said Police Chief Garry Moss. Officers broke through the door, pulled Hernandez from the room and extinguished the fire before it could spread to the house.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with arson, terroristic threats and criminal damage to property, Moss said.
