Nick Buss set the tone for Chattanooga's explosive night with a leadoff home run to right field, and Kyle Russell provided the big blast later in the first with a three-run homer to right as the Lookouts beat Birmingham 9-5 on Tuesday.
The Lookouts continued the onslaught in the second inning when Luis Nunez hit an RBI double to left, Blake Smith an RBI single to left and J.T. Wise an RBI double to right in consecutive at-bats.
Wise homered to left in the fourth inning to put Chattanooga up 9-3.
Game three of a five-game series in Birmingham is today at 1:30 EDT.
Chris Withrow (1-1, 5.50 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, with Nestor Molina (3-4, 5.07) scheduled for the Barons.
Matt Magill was named Tuesday as Southern League pitcher of the week after striking out 10 and walking none during seven scoreless innings in a win last Thursday over Jacksonville. Magill also won the weekly honor last month.
