The Chattanooga Regional Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is inducting eight members tonight and honoring McCallie School tennis player Bobby Brouner as "emerging athlete." The eight inductees are Shimmy Berman, Izzie and Zelig Frumin, Norman Hofferman, Matthew Levine, Merv Pregulman, Virginia Weitzman Raider and Saul Raisin. Berman and Raider are being honored posthumously. Berman was highly regarded as a TSSAA basketball official before he was shot and killed as a robbery victim, and he was the leader in bringing organized sports back to the local Jewish Community Center after World War II, when he served as the Army's sports director at Governor's Island in New York. Izzie Frumin played basketball and baseball for City High and also starred in fastpitch and slowpitch softball and was the JCC's first paid athletic director. His older brother was all-city in basketball and baseball and played four years in the Chicago Cubs organization. Hofferman starred in football, basketball, baseball and track for Central High and played football, basketball and baseball while stationed in Germany with the Army in the 1950s. Levine lettered in diving, cross country and track at McCallie, where he graduated in 1990, and was a diver and track star at Yale with three Ivy League event titles. He was a six-time All-Ivy and All-East athlete and became the highest point scorer in Yale track history. Pregulman, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, was all-state in high school in Lansing, Mich., and was a three-time All-Big Ten and 1942 and '43 All-American for Michigan and went on to a pro football career. There were no school sports at City High for Raider, but she was a cheerleader there and at the University of Chattanooga and won the city tennis championship. Also an accomplished golfer and bowler, she is considered the Chattanooga Jewish community's best female athlete. Raisin, at 29, is the youngster in the inductees class. The Dalton native became a top international cyclist and was the "Best Young Rider" at the Tour de Georgia, but his greatest triumph has been in overcoming a brain injury in a crash and establishing the Raisin Hope Foundation. Now he is training for Ironman competition.

Baseball

• McCallie School outfielder Kade McGlohon signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to continue his baseball career at NCAA Division II member Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. McGlohon had a team-high .405 batting average before an ankle injury ended his senior season. "Kade is a great young man who plays the game the way it should be played," said Chris Richardson, who was his coach throughout McGlohon's high school years. "I am not sure we have ever had someone who has played with as much passion as Kade. It was a huge blow when we lost him for the year." Limestone's coach is Chico Lombardo, who grew up in Chattanooga and played for Notre Dame High School.

• The Chattanooga Cyclones SM baseball team finished second in the 18-under division of the Southern Wood Bat Memorial Invitational last weekend in Cleveland. The losses were 8-0 and 6-2 to Excel 18s, who are ranked eighth nationally among 18s travel teams and have 10 players headed to NCAA Division I programs. The Cyclones' Cody Rhinehart and Bobby Towne had RBIs in the championship-game defeat. T.J. Binder had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs and Rhinehart and Hunter Hudson each had two hits and two runs in an 11-3 win over the Cyclones K, Rhinehart with two RBIs and Hudson with one plus solid relief pitching. Jordan Whitmire got the pitching win. Dakota Hudson pitched a 9-2 win over the CBC 18s with 10 strikeouts, and Binder had two hits and three RBIs, Chris Caffey had two hits with two RBIs and Matt Allen had two hits, three runs and an RBI. Rhinehart got the win in a 9-1 defeat of Chattanooga South, as Binder had three hits and two RBIs and Hunter Hudson had two hits, two RBIs and three stolen bases.

Soccer

• The East Ridge Express 98 Red won the under-14 girls' title at the recent Tennessee Soccer Division 3 state tournament in Hendersonville. The Express 98 Red scored eight goals and allowed one for the weekend. They previously won the NASA Classic in Marietta, the FC Alliance Fall Classic in Knoxville and the Cobb Classic in Douglasville, Ga., and were finalists in four tournaments.
