As if the arrival of Santa Claus at Hamilton Place wasn't big enough news, this year's Santa Arrival Parade will include marching bands and several prizes for participants.

Things will get under way at 11 a.m., and Dan Wolfe, Hamilton Place general manager, is hoping the crowd will be even bigger than last year. Last year more than 1,000 people, representing more than 50 groups, took part in the parade.

"We are thrilled to move this family-friendly event to a Saturday to encourage more families to attend," he said.

New this year will be a judging area where entrants will vie for bragging rights and prizes in several categories: Best of Parade, Best High School Band, Community Spirit Award, Most Holiday Spirit, Best Performance by a Dance/Chorus Group and Outstanding Commercial Entry.

All money raised from the $25 registration fee will benefit the United Way of Greater Chattanooga's Project Ready for School.

Groups wishing to register for this year's parade can download an application from the mall's website at www.HamiltonPlace.com.

These events also are scheduled Saturday, Nov. 3, at Hamilton Place.

* Reindeer Dash: This inaugural 5K raises money for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. It starts at 8:30 a.m. at Academy Sports + Outdoors. Family-friendly events include a live DJ and bounce house. Register for $25 at Active.com or for $30 on-site.

* Red Kettles: The Salvation Army kicks off its Christmas campaign with bell ringers and Angel Tree adoptions at 3 p.m. at Center Stage on the lower level.
