Polk County senior Lydia Triplett and Signal Mountain senior Haley Davidson pick TTU

Polk County senior Lydia Triplett and Signal Mountain senior Haley Davidson became close friends by playing in golf tournaments throughout the Chattanooga area and beyond.

They plan to be roommates next year.

Triplett and Davidson both have committed to play college golf at Tennessee Tech beginning next fall.

"Our parents really got along early, and we did, too," Triplett said. "We had already talked about it. Then when I made my decision, we also decided to be roommates."

Triplett chose Tennessee Tech over her early favorite, Middle Tennessee State, this past weekend after taking one last visit and catching up with current TTU freshman Allison Geer.

"I was so set on Middle; then Tech came along," said Triplett, who tied for 10th in the Class A/AA state tournament. "It was hard for me to switch, but I feel really confident about my decision.

"It's pretty cool that I'm getting paid -- well, getting school paid for."

Davidson, who tied for second in the A/AA state, chose to play for coach Polk Brown instead of playing at Austin Peay.

"It's a dream I've always had -- to play Division I college golf and to be a college athlete," said Davidson, who helped Signal Mountain win four state championships in the four years of the school's existence.

"Coach Brown is rebuilding the team, and me starting at Signal the first year it started, it's something that I'm used to," Davidson said. "That feels comfortable to me.

"Coach [Wes] Moore, Coach [Rodney] Mitchell, my swing coach Mitch Brock, my parents and past teammates all made me strive to do better."

Triplett and Davidson will join former Notre Dame golfer Maddie Everts, who is a sophomore for the Golden Eagles.

They expect to sign scholarship papers during the early signing period that begins next Wednesday.

"I figured out that Tennessee Tech seemed like a close-knit family," Triplett said. "That's what I wanted."
