MONTEVALLO, Ala. — Authorities say a suspended University of Montevallo student is charged in the killing of cats that were found dead on or around campus.
Shelby County jail records show Christian Todd Slaton is charged with four counts of animal cruelty. He was arrested Tuesday and freed on $20,000 bond.
University spokesman Jamie Bessette says Slaton is suspended and has been barred from campus since Halloween, when he was identified as a suspect.
Bessette says three cats were found killed on campus and a fourth off campus over a period of several days.
Bessette says it’s only a coincidence the student was suspended on Halloween, and there’s no apparent link to the holiday.
Court records aren’t available to show if Slaton has a lawyer.
