2 Brainerd High students bring gun to school, are suspended

Two male students at Brainerd High School were taken into custody on Oct. 25 for bringing a gun to school.

Chattanooga Police spokesman Officer Nathan Hartwig said a school resource officer and administrators discovered a handgun in a locker after being tipped off. A 14- and 17-year old were taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Facility, he said.

The teens were charged with carrying a weapon on school property, Hartwig said.

Lee McDade, assistant superintendent for Hamilton County Schools, said both boys were suspended.
