State Sen. Andy Berke, D-Chattanooga, picked up official papers today to qualify for the Chattanooga mayor election, the campaign announced in a news release.
Berke had previously announced his intention to give up his senate seat and run for mayor. He’s since raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the campaign.
“I will continue to focus on the critical issues that affect the quality of life in Chattanooga - public safety, education, and economic development,” Berke said in the news release. “We must recognize our common issues and come together to make a positive change for our city.”
Guy Satterfield, a former city employee, is the only other candidate to have picked up and qualified for the March 2013 mayoral election. Former City Parks & Recreation Director Rob Healy has said he has formed an exploratory committee to decide on a potential run.
