Demetrius Kitchens scored 23 points in leading Chattanooga State to a 106-93 win over Dyersburg State in a TCCAA basketball opener Friday night, after the Lady Tigers began the sweep with a 70-52 win featuring 16 points by Khamiyah Crawford and 12 points and 10 rebounds by Stevonna Scott.
The Chattanooga State teams both are 3-0 overall. This afternoon they host Southwest Tennessee, which won 74-59 over the Cleveland State women and lost 84-74 to the Cleveland State men Friday.
Ralph Eason had 23 points and eight rebounds and Trey Suttles had 15 points and 15 rebounds for Cleveland's Cougars, while Travis Jones scored 13 points. Mercedes Owens scored 13 points and Ciera Anderson had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cougars.
* Lee (w) 59, UVA-Wise 48: At Cleveland, Hollie German had 22 points, five assists and three steals as the host Lady Flames rose to 2-0. Christine Nyobe had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the visitors. In the later game in the Jack Souther Classic, Auburn-Montgomery beat Evangel 52-47.
* Hiwassee (w) 71, Toccoa Falls 38: The Lady Tigers were impressive in their first win under new coach Junior Johnson with Makayla Cordell recording 28 points and four assists, Bethany Allen 10 points and 10 rebounds and Dominique Stringer nine points and six assists. Kee-Kee Cross and Natasha Cook made seven and five steals for Hiwassee (1-2).
* Georgia Northwestern 68, Trinity Baptist: At Nashville in the Welch College tournament, Alex Miller scored 18 points and Hunter Ivester and Quinton Cotton added 12 and 11 for the Bobcats, Ivester with seven rebounds, and Trea Covington was 3-for-5 on 3-point shots. That was GNTC's first win in three games.
* Georgia Northwestern (w) 71, Piedmont International 62: At Nashville, Keesha Wise scored 17 points, Alyssa Nichelson and Mariah Price had 12 apiece, Kiarra Parks added 10 and Odessa Person grabbed nine rebounds for the winning Lady Bobcats (1-2).
