Covington to perform at benefit

Area firefighters and emergency responders will gather for a charity pancake breakfast and acoustic show by Bucky Covington on Saturday morning at Chattanooga Fire Station 1, 218 E. Main St.

The meal will be served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Season 5 "American Idol" finalist is expected to perform around 10:30 a.m. outside the station.

The fundraiser will benefit Tristin Greer, a junior at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences who is battling neuroblastoma, a cancer that forms in the nerve tissue.

"Tristin has been fighting this terrible disease for several years now, and the financial hardship on the family has become catastrophic," said a news release from organizers.

Tristin's father, Jason Greer, is a Chattanooga firefighter. His colleagues are hoping the fundraiser can "help ease the family's financial burden."

Covington's show is hosted by Chattanooga Firefighters Association, Local 820, and Help the Good Guys.

Cost of the breakfast is $5. The show is free. A custom guitar signed by the singer will be raffled off for $5 per ticket.

Donations may be sent to CFFA L820, in care of Jason Greer, P.O. Box 24683, Chattanooga, TN 37422.
