Red Bank firefighters injured battling house fire on Harwood Drive

Two Red Bank firefighters were injured when a ceiling collapsed on them while the battled a house fire at 509 Harwood Drive, authorities said.

The fire started around 7:40 p.m. The house's renters, Kim Wyatt and Jenny Fein, discovered flames in the garage and immediately evacuated the house with four dogs, Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said.

First responders found flames on the roof and smoke pouring out of the house and quickly extinguished the fire, which was concentrated in the attic.

After the fire was out, the living room ceiling collapsed on two firemen. They were treated at Erlanger hospital for injuries Maxwell said were not life-threatening.

The fire is estimated to have caused $60,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.

The Red Bank Fire Department, Walden's Ridge Emergency Services, the American Red Cross and Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, Maxwell said.
