Citing strong sales in the U.S., China and Russia, Volkswagen today reported it delivered nearly 15 percent more vehicles worldwide in October than a year earlier.

The maker of such brands as VW, Porsche, and Audi and models including the Chattanooga-made Passat said it delivered 788,700 vehicles last month, up from 688,000 a year earlier.

For the year through October, deliveries rose to 7.5 million cars, which was 10 percent more than in the same period last year.

Also through October, deliveries in the U.S. were a third higher at 481,100, according to the automaker.

In China, deliveries were up nearly 20 percent to 2.26 million.

But in debt-troubled western Europe, excluding Volkswagen's German home market, sales dropped 5.8 percent to 1.57 million.
