For the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team, the 2012 season already has been a success. Now the Mocs get a chance to see if they can make it truly special.

UTC is riding a four-match winning streak into today's 4:30 p.m. opening-round match against the College of Charleston in the Southern Conference tournament at Davidson, N.C.

"The team is doing great, and I couldn't be more excited for them," second-year coach Travis Filar said by phone Friday following practice at Davidson College. "They've worked hard and are seeing their work pay off. They are confident and they believe they belong here."

UTC (14-7, 8-8), the No. 3 seed out of the North division, is making its first trip to the eight-team tournament since 2008, the year before seniors Paula Passmore, Heather Parman, Meagan Ernd and Christina Teter began their UTC careers.

Filar is happy for his seniors' accomplishment, but he wants the Mocs to keep pushing for more.

"Our one goal coming into this year was to make the conference tournament, and for these seniors to be able to do that is really exciting," he said. "But now that we're here, we aren't satisfied. We want to fight as hard as possible for each point and see if we can make some noise."
