CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- A 24-year-old woman is dead and a man was treated at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga after an early morning double shooting Tuesday at a Cleveland home, police said.

Cleveland police were called to 1223 Crown St. NW about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Officer Evie West, spokeswoman for the department.

The victims, identified as Annie Ulmer and Steven Lanosga, 28, were taken to Erlanger, where Ulmer was pronounced dead and Lanosga was treated for wounds that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Ulmer was Lanosga's girlfriend, investigators said.

"The deceased died from a single gunshot wound to the head," Eric Blach, administrator and lead investigator for the Bradley County Medical Examiner's Office, said of Ulmer's wound.

Ulmer's attending physician at Erlanger may label the official cause of death as blood loss from the injury, Blach said.

"It is very rare for people to survive gunshot wounds to the head," he said.

The autopsy may be finished, but lab test results could take up to 90 days to complete, Blach said. Those procedures are being handled in Hamilton County, he said.

"The investigation is ongoing, and the cause and manner of death is pending the autopsy results and investigation findings," West said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Calls to the residence, listed under Lanosga's name in phone directories, were not returned.

Relatives of Ulmer could not be reached for comment.
