Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorale sing at UTC

The UTC Men’s Chorus and the Women’s Chorale will join forces for a concert Tuesday, Nov. 27, that includes several Christmas selections.

The Women’s Chorale recital, directed by Lee Harris, will include “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day” as arranged by John Rutter, and “A Christmas Garland,” as arranged by Bruce Saylor. The latter is a medley of three well-known Christmas carols: “Ding, Dong Merrily on High,” “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly” and “Deck the Halls.”

The recital also will feature “Noël des Enfants Qui N’ont Plus de Maisons” (“Christmas Carol for Homeless Children”), one of Claude Debussy’s last compositions. It was written in December 1915, as Debussy witnessed firsthand the devastation World War I wrought across Europe.

The Men’s Chorus, directed by Roland Carter, will sing select music by Noah Ryder, including “Gwine Up,” “Run to Jesus,” “Stand by Me” and “What You Gonna Call That Pretty Little Baby?” Ryder was a noted black conductor and educator.

Also represented will be compositions by Agneta Sköld and Bob Chilcott.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St. Admission is free.
