Sheriff investigates abuse complaint from 1970s

ANNISTON, Ala. - Two adult siblings in a north Alabama county have alleged that they were sexually abused as children. Their allegations go back 40 years.

The Anniston Star reports that the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating. It is not unusual for adults to report abuse from long ago, but four decades is longer than the typical case.

Steve Robertson is a sex crimes investigator for the Calhoun-Cleburn Children's Center. He recalls cases that went back as far as 25 years.

The newspaper did not identify the alleged victims, but described them as a 46-year-old female and a 51-year-old male. The sister was 6 at the time the alleged abuse began. Her brother was 12.

The suspect is their uncle, who is now a registered sex offender.
