CENTRE, Ala. - A Northeast Alabama community college shut down for the day after a woman's body was found inside the campus athletic arena.

Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie said the woman found at Gadsden State-Cherokee was the victim of a possible homicide, but police aren't yet releasing details.

Wilkie said someone found the body in a mechanical room under the arena bleachers about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

He said the dead woman is not a student, but authorities haven't released her identity.

Wilkie said suicide was ruled out, and the case could wind up classified as a homicide.

The community college called off classes for the day after the discovery, but the mayor says it could reopen as early as today.
