The 24-hour block party known as Mainx24 returns Saturday, Dec. 1, with events that promise something for every circadian rhythm.

Whether you get up early, stay up late or can rock around the clock, the annual extravaganza will offer not only a bounty of activities but an array of unusual sights.

A pet goat as a parade mascot? Got it.

Adults racing on Big Wheels? Ready to roll.

A costume party that evokes 1920s Paris? Oui, oui.

Chili cook-off, hymn sing, Hula Hoop flash mob? Check, check, check.

With too many individual events to list in this space - 107 at last count - you can check the website for further instruction, mainx24.com, or just show up. Every storefront and vacant space along Main Street and its intersections on the Southside will be set up to entertain.

FIVE KEY EVENTS

Here are five events sure to draw crowds, but remember there are 102 more choices to keep you entertained. Visit mainx24.com for a complete schedule.

1 EPB Southside Parade: Scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, the parade travels down Jefferson Street from its intersection with Rossville Avenue to Main Street, where it heads west to end at the CraftWorks building at the corner of Main and Market. Previous participants have included the Howard School marching band, Chattanooga Ducks, Chattanooga Roller Girls and the Chattanooga Double Decker Bus. You can parade too, and there are contests for the best entries in the Mutt Strut and Stroller Strut.

2 Carnival: Find family fun, children's crafts, food and music to enjoy in this post-parade event set up at 201 W. Main St.

3 Chili cookoff: Nineteen teams (so far) are registered for Habitat for Humanity's fourth annual World Heavyweight Chili Championship, noon-4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of OCI, 326 E. 4 Big Wheel Championship: Co-ed teams of four will race in relay heats in this benefit for the Children's Advocacy Center of Hamilton County. The boogity-boogity lasts from 1 to 3 p.m. at 405 E. Main St.
