Mammograms

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Parkridge Health System is offering digital mammogram screenings for women through Oct. 31 for $97 and will submit insurance reimbursement for patients. Parkridge East offers extended hours some days. For information or to make appointment, call 493-1271.

Flu shots

Intradermal flu vaccines, which are for adults and use tiny needles under the skin, are available at MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics at select CVS pharmacy stores. The regular intradermal and high-dose flu shots and pertussis vaccines also are available. Visit minuteclinic.com for locations, times and services.

Parish nursing

The Faith Community/Parish Nursing (FCN/PN) class begins Nov. 14 and ends on Feb. 13, 2013. The 33-hour class meets one Wednesday a month, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., for four months: Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 16, 2013, and Feb. 13, 2013. All four classes must be completed to fulfill course and contact hours requirements. Applicants must be registered nurses who wish to bring whole-person health and wellness to his or her faith community. The application process must be completed by Nov. 2. Back/neck pain assessment

Rehab South is offering free back and neck pain assessments through November and will discuss therapy options available. Allow 30 minutes for screening and results. Call 877-4599 to schedule a screening.

Healthcare mini-internships

Community leaders interested in a first-hand perspective on important health care issues from the physician's viewpoint may apply for the 2012 Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society Mini-Internship Program, which will be Oct. 9-11. Diabetes class

The Diabetes Education Class, 1:30-4:30 p.m. Monday at the Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center, will explore ways to manage diabetes. Call 778-9400 for information on physician referral and insurance reimbursement.

Weight-loss surgery

• Chattanooga Bariatrics will hold a free seminar on gastric banding (Lap-Band and Realize Band) and the new sleeve procedure for people 75 pounds overweight at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Chattanooga Bariatrics, 7405 Shallowford Road #160. Boot Camp for Dads

This session for dads (rookie and veteran) discusses the challenges new fathers face, such as uncontrollable crying (from baby and Mom), in-laws and living on little or no sleep. Led by a First Things First instructor, this is a guys-only event. Call First Things First at 257-5383 for information.
