MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officials say hundreds of dead and alive animals have been removed from an abandoned house in Memphis, in what workers say is the worst case of animal cruelty they have seen.
Onzie Horne, deputy director of the city’s Public Works Division, tells The Commercial Appeal that crews with his department and Animal Services removed cats, dogs and even wild raccoons from the home Thursday.
Horne could not say Thursday exactly how many animals were inside the house or how many were alive. To get to the animals, city workers had to fight their way through trash and animal waste that measured nearly 2 feet deep inside the home.
Horne says Animal Services said it is the worst case of animal cruelty they have ever seen.
