Silverdale Baptist junior tight end Colton Rogers made two points abundantly clear Friday night. He can catch a football, and once he does it's going to be a battle to get him on the ground.

Rogers' four first-half catches for 84 yards opened the Seahawks' run game and led the hosts to a 37-13 win over Chattanooga Christian.

Not that Silverdale had too much problem running the football, but once quarterback Spencer Mossburg began connecting with receivers, the Chargers defense could not find firm footing.

The Seahawks (7-1) are off to the best start in the program's young history.

Coach Al Rogers was pleased with his team's ability to keep growing.

"We are undeservedly blessed, we truly are," he said. "I think the program won seven games under Coach [John] Allen, but I think this is the first time we've been 7-1.

"All the credit goes to these kids. They work hard, play with tenacity and grit and never give up. After our loss to Boyd-Buchanan, I told them that if we kept working hard we'd get here," Rogers said. "This is just the start; we haven't reached our goals yet. Those are still within reach."

The Seahawks rolled up 324 yards rushing, with junior Matt McCulley carrying 24 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Mossburg accounted for three touchdowns, two rushing and one on a 13-yard pass to Grant Williams.

It was through the air where Mossburg changed the course of the game. He completed nine of 11 passes for 138 yards.

McCulley broke free on the game's third play and scored on a 60-yard run, giving the Seahawks a very early lead. That became 14-0 on the Mossburg-to-Williams pass. Silverdale led 27-7 at halftime.

Chattanooga Christian's score came on a Jay Sims 3-yard-run. The Chargers' final score came with two seconds remaining, when backup quarterback Zach Mercer hit Brandt McGregor for a 37-yard score.

Starting quarterback Levi Corbett and Mercer finished the game 15-of-34 passing for 235 yards and two interceptions.

Rogers also showed his hands with a pass interception and had three tackles. Joshua Rogers also intercepted a pass and had seven tackles, two of those for lost yardage

Silverdale will play Lookout Valley next week, while the road only gets tougher for the Chargers (1-6), when they host Signal Mountain.
