KNOXVLLE — Documents released by the University of Tennessee in the wake of a fraternity member being hospitalized with a dangerously high blood alcohol level show the school has leveled sanctions against Greek organizations 30 times since August 2007.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the documents recorded 68 violations against 14 fraternities in that time period involving alcohol, physical abuse, hazing and nudity.
In that time, the school has shut down two fraternities, including Pi Kappa Alpha, which was suspended in September after one of its members, Alexander Broughton, was hospitalized. Police reports say he suffered alcohol poisoning from a wine enema, but Broughton has denounced the report as false.
The documents show that Pi Kappa Alpha had the most reprimands for violations, which included stealing Halloween decorations, hazing and serving alcohol.
