Marion County child dies in jeep in river, circumstances suspicious

WHITWELL, Tenn. — A suspicious death investigation is underway in Marion County after a child was found dead inside a car that was in a river.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office, the TBI and Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating.

Marion County detectives say the boy, who's around eight or nine years old, was found dead in a jeep that was in the Sequatchie River in Whitwell Saturday night, but they say he didn't drown and that circumstances are suspicious.

Marion County detectives say a passerby called 9-1-1 when they spotted a white jeep down in the Sequatchie River off Mt. Calvary Road in Whitwell around 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
