Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey will speak at a ribbon cutting ceremony for Hamilton County's new science, technology, engineering and math high school.

The STEM school opened this fall on the Chattanooga State Community College with the help of a state grant. It currently houses 75 freshmen, but will grow to about 300 high school students over the next three years.

Officials have planned a formal ribbon cutting ceremony for 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the school, 4501 Amnicola Highway. The event includes an announcement of a substantial financial contribution to the school, the official launch and ribbon cutting and student-led tours of the new school.

In addition to Ramsey, other local leaders in attendance will include: Ron Harr, CEO of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce; Rick Smith, Superintendent of Hamilton County Schools, Dan Challener, President of PEF, Jim Catanzaro, President of Chattanooga State Community College.
