This week's prep football schedule

(All kickoffs at 7:30 unless noted)

Tyner (5-2, 3-1) at East Hamilton (6-1, 4-0)

A peek ahead: It's a probable championship matchup although each still has a game remaining with Red Bank. An upset loser to Hixson two weeks ago, Tyner climbed back into the race with a hard-fought 39-18 win over Central last Thursday. On Friday, East Hamilton shut out Hixson 49-0. It's a classic match of offensive line (East Hamilton) vs. defensive line (Tyner) but the host Hurricanes, led by quarterback Hunter Moore and running back Logan Hamilton, have the most balanced offense the Rams will have seen all year.

Boyd-Buchanan (7-0) at South Pittsburg (6-1), 8

A peek ahead: This particular rivalry is a money-maker and is always one of the highlights of the high school football season. Boyd-Buchanan in the state's top-ranked Class 2A team and South Pittsburg is No. 1 in Class 1A. The Pirates have won four of the last five over the visiting Buccaneers including last season's 26-10 decision. Boyd's last win came in 2009, 20-12 and the two also had a close one in 2008 with South Pittsburg winning 7-6. The Pirates are led by speedster running backs Demetric Johnson and Jajuan Lankford and they're countered by Bucs running back Rance Harden and quarterback Jim Cardwell. Defense has been Boyd-Buchanan's strength this year and the Bucs just polished off their third shutout, 57-0 over Unaka, and they have allowed just 48 points in their four other games. While one of its six wins was a forfeit, South Pittsburg has scored no fewer than 49 points in the other five and actually scored 54 in its loss.

Pepperell (2-3, 2-0) at Calhoun (5-0)

A peek ahead: Pepperell is led by quarterback Kyle Henderson and running back Ben Davenport. Whether they can match Calhoun's explosive offense is up for debate. The host Yellow Jackets are led by quarterback Tre Lamb. Calhoun leads the 16-game series with 14 victories and has won nine in a row. Pepperell last won in 1980 in a series actually dates back to 1960.
