The president of Red Bank Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Association is facing criminal charges, accused of misusing PTA funds.

Doris J. "Deejay" Mizzell said she voluntarily resigned as president of the PTA and turned herself in Saturday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She faces charges of theft of property under $500 and fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card.

A Hamilton County Schools investigation found $904 in questionable purchases on Mizzell's PTA debit card. Another $180 in PTA petty cash is also unaccounted for, records show.

Mizzell maintains her innocence on both matters. Because her name was on the debit card, she said there was no fraud involved. And any inappropriate debit card purchases have been resolved, she said.

"Those have been worked out," she said. "Everything has been fixed."
