NASHVILLE — Following a trip to Libya and Jordan’s border with Syria, U.S. Sen. Bob Corker says he is “more convinced than ever” that al-Qaida, its affiliates and “violent extremist organizations continue to be a serious threat to America and other countries.”
The Tennessee Republican, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, spent the weekend in Jordan and visited its border with Syria. On Monday, he was in Libya, where an Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi left U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others dead.
Corker said that the U.S. must acknowledge that al-Qaida and other terrorist groups are a danger and be ready to deal with them or “we will be caught off guard again in the future.”
