Chattanooga's Wes Cash and doubles partner Mark Vines of Lynchburg, Va., won their semifinal match Thursday at the USTA Men's 55 Clay Court Championships at The Landing Club at Savannah, Ga. Top-seeded Cash and Vines beat Ross Persons of Houston and Robert Levine of Grand Rapids, Mich., 6-2, 6-0, and will play Kenny House of Wilmington, N.C., and Jeffrey Winkler of St. Petersburg, Fla., this morning for the championship.

• The Tennessee State Closed Adult Championships (odd) tennis tournament begins today at Manker Patten with 84 players in men's and women's age-group singles and doubles and mixed doubles. • The annual McCallie John Strang Championships junior tennis tournament will run Saturday and Sunday at McCallie, GPS, Champions Club and Warner Park with 275 players in boys' and girls' 10- to 18-under play. The players are coming from Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Kentucky as well as Tennessee.

• Former Ridgeland High School player Dewaun Harrison was named the NAIA and Mid-South Conference football defensive player of the week after the University of the Cumberlands sophomore linebacker's performance against Faulkner. In the 31-27 win, which improved the Patriots to 6-0, Harrison recorded seven solo tackles, returned an interception for a touchdown, broke up three passes and forced a fumble. He has 26 tackles and three interceptions for a defense that ranks in the NAIA's top 10.

Soccer

• Lee University split with visiting Auburn-Montgomery in Southern States Athletic Conference soccer Thursday, the Lee men losing 3-2 in overtime to the NAIA's sixth-ranked team but the second-ranked Lady Flames winning 2-0. Sias Reyneke had both goals for the Flames (7-5-1, 3-4), five minutes apart in the second half, and Sebastian Vallejo assisted on the first. Agust Arnarson's third goal of the match won for AUM (10-2-1, 5-1) at 102:35. For the Lee women (10-1, 7-0), Leah Fortune assisted a Laura Thacker score off a corner kick at 30:56 and scored from an Amy Cochran cross at 77:28. AThe shots count was 11-11; Leah Wilson made four saves in the shutout.

• Tennessee Temple's soccer teams beat Johnson University on Thursday at Camp Jordan, 12-1 in the women's game and 5-1 in the men's. Ezequiel Nunez scored three goals and Seunfunmi Ogunbunmi and Shaun Webster had one each for the Crusaders (7-7). Liz Adams had four goals and three assists and Courtney Born had three goals and an assist for the Lady Crusaders (5-8-1), who got other goals from Ashey Gallo, Beth Bontekoe, Rebecca Whiteside, Brenda Valzequez and Breana Miller.

Volleyball

• Irene Ojukwu had 15 kills and 11 digs and Camil Martinez set 44 assists as fifth-ranked Lee University beat Shorter in volleyball Thursday night in Cleveland, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20. Nicole Sumida made 11 kills, Lauren Williams and Marija Zelenovic added nine apiece, Paula Martins had three block solos and three block assists with seven kills and Libby Peigen and Sarah Davis made 13 and 10 digs for Lee (18-6). Jasmine Crook and Anna Graham had 16 and 14 kills for Shorter (13-2), which got 40 assists and 10 digs from Jordan Corder.
