DECATUR, Ala. — A woman has been arrested after she gave birth to an infant who tested positive for a chemical derived from marijuana.
The Decatur Police Department says 24-year-old Valerie Lynnae Wallace of Decatur was arrested Friday nearly a month after she gave birth to a baby girl at Parkway Medical Center. At the time of the birth, the infant tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
An investigation determined that Wallace smoked marijuana during her pregnancy, and she was fully aware that she was pregnant at the time.
Wallace faces the charge of chemical endangerment of a child. Wallace is being held on bond at the Morgan County Jail.
It was not clear Wednesday whether Wallace has an attorney.
