INDIANAPOLIS - Chattanoogan Brooke Pancake, a two-time All-America golfer at Alabama, is one of nine finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year award that will be presented tonight. Candidates were selected for a combination of academic achievement, athletic excellence and dedication to community service and leadership. Three female athletes from each of the NCAA's divisions were selected as finalists. Pancake, who prepped at Baylor School, earned a marketing degree with honors and a 4.0 grade point average. She was the runner-up in the 2012 national tournament and sank the winning putt for the Crimson Tide to win their first national championship. She also dedicated time to the Caring Days Center and disaster relief program following the tornadoes in April 2011.

• Signal Mountain's Tom Baird and Windyke Country Club's Bob Clark won 6 and 5 and fellow amateur seniors Mike Poe of Athens and Jim Brown of Loudon won 2 up in foursomes in the Tennessee Challenge Cup event against top state professionals Saturday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, and Baird with Clark (3 and 2) and Poe with Knoxville's Jeff Golliher (4 and 3) also won in four-ball play, where Henrik Simonsen of The Honors Course and Bruce Etter of Chattanooga Golf & Country Club teamed for a 4 and 3 pros win. The Ryder Cup-type event ends today with singles.

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is in 13th place at 618 going into the final round of the 16-team Mercedes-Benz Collegiate tournament at Knoxville's Holston Hills Country Club. Penn State is first at 580, one shot ahead of host Tennessee. UTC's fellow Southern Conference member Furman is seventh at 595. The Mocs' Jordan Britt is tied for 21st individually at 148 after a 72 Saturday, and Marion Duvernay and Emily McLennan shot 74 and 75 and are tied for 40th and 49th at 151 and 153.

Tennis

• UTC's Kayla Jones and Katie Polk won the silver doubles title in the Duckworth Fall Classic tennis tournament at Clemson, S.C., with an 8-3 win over an USC Upstate duo Saturday, and the Lady Mocs' Alexa Flynn in Flight 5 Silver, Kelsey Coots in the Red Flight, Claire Mulyadi in the Green, Jones in the Yellow and Jovana Pecovski are in singles finals today. At the Tennessee Fall lnvitational in Knoxville, Mocs seniors Manuel Barroetavena and William Disterdick are alive in back draws, and Disterdick and Pavels Grigorjevs are in the Volunteer Doubles final.

Running

• Nathan Wanuch and Amanda Sumner led the UTC cross country teams to a sweep of the team triumphs in their Front Runner Invitational meet Saturday on the Moccasin Bend course. Wanuch won the men's 5-kilometer race in 15:17.68, nearly 10 seconds ahead of second-place Robinson Simatei of Middle Tennessee State, and Bryan College's Anthony Simpson and Conner Hatfield were third and fifth as the NAIA Lions were second in the othewise NCAA Divison I event, four points behind the Mocs. Simpson's time was 15:29. UTC veteran Lucas Cotter, out with a foot injury since outdoor track season, ran for the first time this fall and finished seventh, just ahead of teammate Trever Janssen with Bryan's Alex Stephens ninth. Sumner won the two-mile race in 11:25.85 with Kennesaw State's Lauren Scott second in 11:27.97, and UTC's Teghan Henderson, Keeley Stewart and Kathryn Stuart were fourth, sixth and seventh. Bryan was fifth out of the seven women's teams, led by 17th-place Victoria Yates.

Volleyball

• The College of Charleston defeated visiting UTC 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 in Southern Conference volleyball Saturday. Darcy Dorton had 14 kills and 16 digs for the Cougars (15-6, 7-1). Christina Teter and Sarah Batterton led UTC (8-14, 2-5) with nine and seven kills, while Bridget Camacho had 22 assists. Paula Passmore had 18 digs in defeat, and Briana Reid and Melissa Green had 11 each.

• The Bryan College volleyball team improved to 10-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and 21-8 overall by defeating Columbia 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22 with 15 kills from Kaylan Dilts, 10 apiece from Chelsea Breaden and Lindsey Knight and 36 assists with 14 digs from Taylor Fink. Corrie Walker had 19 digs and Breaden made 10. Taylor Sellers had 13 kills for the South Carolina school (13-7, 6-5). In another AAC match, Tennessee Wesleyan (7-9, 3-8) won 3-1 over St. Andrews.

• Trevecca Nazarene defeated Covenant College 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 in volleyball Saturday in Nashville. Chelsea Van Dyk had 14 kills, Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 26 assists and Estes Carlson had 18 digs for Covenant (16-6).

• Tennessee Temple lost 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 in volleyball Saturday at Talladega College.

• Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High School had 53 assists and Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had eight kills with 10 digs in Carson-Newman's 22-25, 31-29, 25-14, 25-17 volleyball loss Saturday at 16-2 Wingate.

Football

• UTC football receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Will Healy, a former Buchanan-Buchanan star, will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without.
