GBI agents are investigating whether a shooting that involved a Whitfield County sheriff’s deputy was justified.
The deputy, who hasn’t yet been named, shot a man who was trying to run over the officer as he ran away from a house off Mitchell Bridge Road around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, said Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent Greg Ramey.
Whitfield officers were investigating a domestic assault at the house when the suspect tried to flee but was blocked by the officer, Ramey said. Another officer was hurt when he tried to pull the suspect from the truck when he still refused to move after being shot in the upper torso.
The condition of the man wasn’t immediately available.
