Dalton man arrested after $50,000 in meth found in home

A Dalton man was charged with drug trafficking after about $50,000 in methamphetamine was found in his home, authorities say.

Gary Wayne Griggs Jr. 36, of 4671 Old Dixie Highway was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and a parole violation, according to a news release from Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood. Griggs is being held in the Whitfield County Jail.

On Friday morning, authorities executed a search warrant at Griggs' home, and found about one pound of methamphetamine with a street value of $48,000 to $50,000, Chitwood said. Investigators also seized more than $11,000 in cash and two firearms from the residence.

During the search, another man who had been visiting Griggs was sitting outside in a vehicle. Authorities searched him and found a small amount of methamphetamine and more than $1,000 in cash, Chitwood said.

Kenneth Swan, 32, of 212 Hummingbird Lane in Calhoun, Ga. was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, the sheriff said.
