Fundraiser honors Henry Henegar

Henry Henegar will be the guest of honor at a fundraising dinner for Richmont Graduate University on Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at The Chattanoogan.

Henegar was instrumental in adding the counseling center at Richmont, formerly known as Chattanooga Bible Institute. CBI merged with Psychological Studies Institute in the 1990s, and Henegar led the merged facility through accreditation, according to Janie McNabb. The PSI/CBI name later changed again to Richmont Graduate University.

Henegar is a graduate of McCallie School, and served 16 years at McCallie as an English teacher and Director of Alumni.

For nine years, Henegar served as President Emeritus of Richmont Graduate School and Chattanooga Bible Institute. He and wife Jane have three children and five grandchildren.

Day of Caring nets 678 volunteers

United Way of Greater Chattanooga announced this week that 678 community volunteers from 28 companies around the region participated in its annual Day of Caring.

According to Kelley Nave, 65 projects at 30 nonprofit agencies were completed in roughly one day. Together, the volunteers totaled 3,715 donated hours of time.

The 2012 Day of Caring "Site of the Day" was the Sheila Jennings/Westside Recreation Center, where volunteers from ACE Hardware painted the gym, designed a mural, reorganized several rooms and installed materials to help organize backpacks and coats.

Participating companies were ACE Hardware, AkzoNobel, AT&T retirees, Benchmark Physical Therapy, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Chattanooga Gas, CIGNA Insurance, Cornerstone Bank, EPB, FedEx and First Tennessee Bank.

Also, Hamilton Plastics; Henderson, Hutcheson & McCullough; Husch & Blackwell LLP; Warren & Griffin; IBEW; Lattimore, Black, Morgan & Cain; McKee Foods; Partnership FCA; Publix; Regions Bank; Roper; Shaw; SunTrust Bank; TVA Sequoyah; Unum; UPS and Westinghouse.

ACE Hardware's local stores donated 5 percent of items purchased during a special sale to support the volunteer projects. ACE collected more than $12,000 this year.
