Alabama woman charged with homicide in death of grandson

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - An Albertville woman has received an additional charged in the death of her 2-year-old grandson after driving while under the influence when she ran over the child.

WAFF-TV reports that 52-year-old Rebecca Jane Elrod was charged on Friday with criminally negligent homicide in the death of Brayden Lucas Daniel.

Investigators say Elrod was driving a sport utility vehicle when she ran over her grandson on Diane Avenue around 3:29 p.m. Wednesday. The toddler died later that day at Marshall Medical Center South.

Elrod was being held at the Albertville City Jail on driving under the influence charges, but has since been released on a $2,500 bond.

A background check showed that Elrod had three prior arrests for DUIs, but the charges were dropped.
