Things are going to be a little spooky Sunday at Chattanooga Market. Monsters, witches and ghosts will be circulating throughout First Tennessee Pavilion.

But have no fear -- there should also be quite a few superheroes monitoring the Haunted Market, protecting marketgoers as they search for the perfect pumpkin, fall produce, local art or other vendor offering.

The day will include trick-or-treating as well as costume parades at noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. for children and adults dressed in their Halloween attire. The parades double as contests, and three are planned to accommodate what is expected to be a large turnout, said spokeswoman Melissa Siragusa. A small prize will be awarded in each contest.

"Many of our vendors get dressed up also," she said. "For us, it's a relaxing day after the craziness of (the two-day) Oktoberfest."

A Lego Build Competition will be held for children and parents to create a Halloween-themed structure in a 30-minute time period. Entry is a $5 donation for Habitat of Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area. Judging will be based only on creativity, and the winner will be announced at the end of the day. Contestants do not need to be present to win.

While there will be a Halloween theme at the market, visitors will be well aware that the underlying theme is fall.

There will be "an abundance of fall-oriented produce and foods," Siragusa said.
