Preseason expectations are lower than recent years for University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball teams.
The Lady Mocs were selected third by the Southern Conference women's coaches and received two first-place votes.
Coach John Shulman's men's team was picked to finish fifth in the North Division by coaches and sixth by a collection of media and sports information directors.
"I'm not surprised," Mocs senior Dontay Hampton said. "We were preseason No. 1 last year, and look what happened. It doesn't matter. It's just another opinion. We don't worry about the outsiders and what they think."
UNC Greensboro was selected to win the North in both men's polls, and Davidson claimed both top spots for the South.
The Lady Mocs were selected behind Davidson and Appalachian State but received two first-place votes.
After graduating four senior starters, the Mocs did not have a player selected to the 10-man preseason All-SoCon squad. The Lady Mocs were represented by Kayla Christopher and Taylor Hall.
