Chattanooga crews help with Hurricane Isaac storm relief

Several area power crews moved through Florida and are headed to Louisiana to help restore power after Hurricane Isaac left more than 900,000 Louisiana homes and businesses without electricity.

Service Electric Co., sent 175 people from the Chattanooga area to Florida on Monday as the storm first hit. The company soon will send another 30 workers to New Orleans and central Louisiana. Company President Jody Shea said workers initially expected to finish repairs within five days, but the extent of the damage pushed their estimated time frame back to a week or more.

EPA gives OK for Arctic drilling

Shell Royal Dutch Shell PLC has received permission to operate its drill ship in the Chukchi Sea under a temporary revision to its air permit, clearing another hurdle in its quest to drill exploratory oil wells in the Arctic Ocean this year.

A spokesman for the Environmental Protection Agency told The Associated Press on Friday that it will issue a one-year air permit compliance order for Shell's activities off Alaska's northwest coast.
