TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga trails South Florida 21-10 at halftime in the season opener for both teams tonight at Raymond James Stadium.
Safety D.J. Key breathed some life into the Mocs with a 43-yard interception return to the South Florida 4-yard line and two plays later Keon Williams scored from the 2 with 30 seconds left in the half.
After managing minus-1 yards and zero first downs in the opening quarter, UTC had five first downs and 93 yards in the second.
The Bulls scored first on a 2-yard Demetris Murray run and Nick Pollard got UTC on the board with a career-long 39-yard field goal.Terrell Robinson started the game at quarterback, but neither he nor Jacob Huesman was able to put a drive together.
B.J. Daniels threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second and the Bulls led 21-3 before Key's fourth career interception.
Huesman was 3-for-4 passing for 43 yards in the half, while Robinson was 1-for-1 for 5 yards. Rushing, Huesman had 18 yards on 10 carries, Marquis Green had 17 yards on two attempts and Robinson was shut down with 9 yards on seven carries.
