Teen charged in new assault

Jumoke Johnson, 18, was arrested Saturday on charges of domestic assault and reckless endangerment after a fight with his girlfriend, according to a Chattanooga police report.

Johnson, whom police have labeled as a Rollin' 60 Crips leader, received a scholarship to attend Miles College in Fairfield, Ala., after a Times Free Press story this spring.

Johnson came back to Chattanooga for Labor Day weekend. According to the police report, he began arguing with his girlfriend, Kerrion Armstrong, about going to pick up his younger brother. The couple's daughter, JuKaria, was in the back seat. Armstrong told police Johnson struck her.

He posted a $3,000 bond the same evening. Johnson's next court date is set for Sept. 10 before Hamilton County Sessions Court Judge David Bales.

Slaying suspect nabbed in Atlanta

A man suspected in an Aug. 5 shooting death on Tunnel Boulevard has been arrested, according to Chattanooga police.

Langdon Strickland, 28, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide Saturday, police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said in a news release.

The shooting was reported at 8:43 a.m. Aug. 5. Police said they believed the victim, Darrell Lane, had been targeted.

Strickland was arrested at a Microtel Inn in the Atlanta area and is awaiting extradition to Tennessee, Hartwig said.

U.S. marshals also were involved in the investigation, Hartwig said.

UTC reports power outage

The power was back on by 9 p.m. Sunday in all but one building at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus after an outage hit the north part of the campus earlier in the afternoon.

Construction crews knocked the power off while working about 3 p.m., UTC spokesman Chuck Cantrell said.

Cantrell said Sunday evening that the power had been restored to all of the buildings, including dormitories Lockmiller, Stagmaier, Boling and Johnson Obear, but had not been restored to the Guerry Center, which houses the admissions office, the honors program and the economics department.
