Dollar General Literacy Foundation gives $9,500 to local groups

Five area schools and nonprofit organizations will receive a boost in their literacy efforts thanks to $9,500 in grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded Youth Literacy grants totaling

$9,500 to five schools and nonprofit organizations in Chattanooga and the greater Chattanooga area to help children and students who are reading below grade level or who are experiencing reading difficulty.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded grants to Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy, Daisy Elementary School, Hixson Middle School, United Methodist Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and Valley View Elementary School in Cleveland.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation's Youth Literacy program is aimed helping children and students who are reading below grade level or who are experiencing reading difficulty. Grants are awarded to assist with implementing new or expanding youth literacy programs; to purchase new technology or equipment; or to purchase books, materials or software for youth literacy programs.
