Chattanooga City Council to take on affordable public housing

The Chattanooga City Council will look more closely at affordable housing in 30 days.

The Rev. Leroy Griffith, a member of the Westside Community Association, spoke today to the council during a Housing and Neighborhood Services Committee meeting about a proposed zoning law.

The zoning law would require any housing within the urban area of Chattanooga be built with a certain percentage of affordable units for moderate- and low-income residents.

Councilman Andraé McGary made a motion to place the item on the agenda in two weeks and Councilman Russell Gilbert seconded.

McGary later amended the motion to 30 days so the City issues.
