ATLANTA — Members of the Libyan American Association of Georgia have held a candlelight vigil to remember Libyan Ambassador Christopher Stevens and the three other slain Americans.
An association member, Nadia Mahmound, said members turned out Saturday night in downtown Atlanta to show that Stevens was loved because he was encouraging the U.S. government to get more involved in Libya.
The group’s executive director, Juma Khamis, told WGCL-TV the association wanted to show it is sorry for what happened to the Americans. He said there have been advances between the Muslim world and the United States in the last few years, but the people who killed the Americans are trying to stop that work.
Despite the killings, Mahoud and Khamis said they believe better days are ahead for their native land.
