Meigs County slaying victim identified

A Meigs County, Tenn., man who was shot to death late Saturday has been identified as Nathan Whitener, 24.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Sunday night that Whitener and Joshua Smith, 25, got into an argument at Whitener's home on Burkett's Chapel Road about 10 p.m. Saturday.

The argument escalated, and Whitener was shot.

Smith has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on a $100,000 bond pending arraignment Tuesday, the release stated.

The investigation is continuing.
