Sheriff collecting medications

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Bradley County Sheriff's Office is working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and a local anti-drug coalition to take in county residents' unused or expired medications.

"Substance abuse continues to be one of the most serious problems facing communities throughout the United States. Bradley County is not immune," according to a sheriff's office news release. "There is a broad range of abused illegal drugs, from meth and inhalants to cough medicine. Prescription drug abuse is also a major problem and growing each day."

Drop off medicines at the Criminal Investigations Division, 2290 Blythe Ave. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Workshop focuses on farmers

ROCK SPRING, Ga. - A workshop called Farm to Fork set for Thursday at the Walker County Ag Center in Rock Spring will focus on helping agricultural producers market directly to consumers.

The workshop is a joint effort of the University of Georgia Center of Agribusiness and Economic Development and the Georgia Center of Innovation for Agribusiness, according to Walker County Extension Coordinator Norman Edwards.

Catoosa Democrats to hold rally

RINGGOLD, Ga. - The 2012 Apple Pie Rally, sponsored by the Catoosa County Democratic Party, is set for Saturday at the Davis Cattle Ranch, 1240 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road.

Hours are noon to 2 p.m. The public is invited to meet Democratic candidates, including Danny Grant, running for the new 14th Congressional District, and Tom McMahan, running for state House District 1.

The keynote speakers will be former Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond and Ringgold native Stacey Godfrey Evans, now a state representative from Smyrna, Ga.

Mother charged in toddler shooting

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A 24-year-old mother is charged with aggravated child abuse after her 1-year-old child shot himself in the hand.

According to a Clarksville Police Department news release, the shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. Saturday. The gun had been left on a coffee table. When the child was unattended, he grabbed it and accidentally shot himself.

Deshana Lisenby was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and released on $5,000 bond.
